Men With Curls

Lemar Obika in the free Metro

On my way towards London I like to pick up the free Metro paper that seems to come out 100 times a day. As I flicked through I noticed a picture of UK singer Lemar Obika with his gorgeous afro! Sorry Lemar, perhaps handsome afro? Manly afro? I don’t know… but it looks great!

It made me think of a few assumptions that people have made about my preferences in men. A few people have told me they expect me to date a man with dreadlocks or a somewhat long afro. Personally, I prefer short cut hair – something that won’t stand out in an office too much.

However, looking at Lemar’s hair has shown me that men in UK can wear the afro with grace and style. A lot of times we talk about women and their afro hair but neglect our men. Too many times I’ve seen men with hair that is unkempt and wild thus sometimes creating a negative perception of black men with hair. I’m glad to see Lemar represent for the UK men. If more pictures like this pop up I might change my mind about my preferences…

What do you think?

  1. I love Lemar’s hair. To me he can do no wrong his face and voice now is topped off with a ‘handsome Afro’. He’s always looking good and the new single proves he can hit the high notes with his voice and now with his fashion sense. ❤
