Let me tell you a bedtime story. Afterall, it is 01:08AM as I type this sentence.
It is a story about when I fell in love with detangling… with my conditioner on my hair wash days.
You see – it was one of those days this summer just past (the term summer is used loosely in the English summer I experienced). I had my funky cool kinky twists I got done in Ghana:
They were done for me at an incredible price, I felt like a superstar! In addition to that because the extensions were of a kinky texture I could pretend I had locs – that’s what I call value for money.
But my darlings, it got to that one point. The point where no amount of brushing and hair-scarfing can hide the fact that the extensions have to go. I really tried to make the relationship with me and that old hair work but then came that day the scales dropped from my eyes. You all know that day, when that one girl verbalises the words you were avoiding, dreading to hear spoken out loud: “When are you taking your twists out?” For some reason you can ignore that fact when you’re alone, but the SECOND another person verbalises it – you can’t stand the hair anymore – come one ladies! Let me know in the comments if this is true for you too!
Ok I digress… it’s bedtime and I can see your eyelids getting heavier.
So the hair had dreaded up. The extensions and my ‘fro had become one. I’m exaggerating slightly for dramatic effect – but you get it.
I started taking the hair out and decided that day I would not comb it out till it was softened by water. I decided to be bold and step out and do new things!
And ever since that day ladies and gents I questioned why I never did it before!
The only down-side this story has was I shed loads because I had the twists in for so long.
And the moral of this bedtime tale is… If in doubt, condition and comb out!
I made that up – impressed right? Lol pictures of the washed hair and shedding below.
Well good night for now dears. But before you sleep off please do share your detangling experiences!
Have a great weekend!
