I have someone special here today. This beautiful woman and I used to go to elementary school, then junior high together in USA. I left USA at the end of seventh grade and we didn’t speak to each other for about ten years…
She messaged me on Facebook that she was coming to London and we’ve been in touch ever since!
God is good.
I had to bring her on this blog though because her hair is so beautiful I just HAD TO share it with you as inspiration and encouragement to carry on with your natural hair journeys!
Without further ado… today’s Hair Pick is Lilly, my childhood friend.
Where are you from?
I’m from Ghana! I was raised in the US, but I currently reside in England.
How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural almost my whole life. My mother (I hate to admit I should have listened ) would not let me perm my hair until I was 14 and could “understand what it meant.” Unfortunately, all I understood at that age was that I wanted straight hair! I was teased a lot for my hair growing up, so from 14-17 I abused my hair with that creamy crack. During this time, my hair/scalp was plagued with health problems I never had to deal with while natural. Shortly before entering the military, I big chopped. I loved my TWA so much that I ended up cutting my hair again, years later. I decided to grow my hair for length though, and have been for 1.5 years now.
What is your hair care routine?
I have super dry hair, so I have to moisturise and seal daily. I clarify or co-wash my hair once a week depending on its needs. I’m shampoo free, so I use ACV to clarify.
What are your favourite hair products?
- Apple cider vinegar
- Shea butter
- Castor oil
- Coconut oil
- Herbal essence Hello Hydration Conditioner
- Almond oil
- Peppermint oil
- Aloe Vera
I use all the products listed above. I use them to make home-made spritzes and a home-made butter/cream. I clarify as needed with ACV and condition/co-wash with Hello Hydration.
Who is your inspiration?
I’m inspired by all the natural ladies I see. There are so many beautiful women with natural hair.
If you’d like to ask Lilly any questions about her fantastic hair please drop them in the comments. She offered to help with her hair tips!
I personally think with hair like that she should start a blog… If you agree with me let her know that too in the comments below! #cheeky
